Biography
John H. Matthews is the Executive Director and co-founder of the Alliance for Global Water Adaptation (http://alliance4water.org). Since 2003, he has integrated technical and policy approaches for water and climate resilience over five continents and more than 25 countries, publishing widely, including in Science, Nature Climate Change, PLoS One, and PLoS Biology. Under his leadership, AGWA has become the official voice of water in the UNFCCC, and AGWA directly advises many national governments, corporations, the European Commission, and key financial institutions on water-related climate risks. In 2018 alone, AGWA advised more than 100 countries on their national adaptation plans. Recent major publications include strategy documents for UN Water, the Asian Development Bank on nature-based solutions and climate resilience, the Global Commission on Adaptation, and The Nature Conservancy on integrating ecosystems within water-based resilience. His engagement with the bonds market in water resilience has resulted in more than 12 billion USD in certified green bonds.
