Biography
Romain Maendly is a senior water resources engineer with the California Department of Water Resources’ (DWR) Climate Change Program. Over the last ten years at DWR, he has been leading, assisting, and collaborating on multiple plans and studies related to integrated water management. Those include the Central Valley Flood Protection 2017 and 2022 Update, and the Statewide Water Availability for Replenishment Estimates Report to comply with the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act. Under the Climate Change Program, Romain is leading the Climate Action Plan Phase II, aiming to improve the consistency and scientific rigor of DWR’s approaches for analyzing climate change's potential impacts while preserving both project management flexibility and efficiency. Romain originated from Switzerland, where he earned a technical certificate in Land Surveying. He completed a B.Sc. in Environmental Engineering Science from UC Berkeley and earned a M.Sc. in Civil and Environmental Engineering within the specialization of water resources at UC Davis.
