Expertise in the field of geochemistry, with an emphasis on organic geochemistry. Research interests encompass the fields of biogeochemistry, paleoceanography, and paleoclimatology, with a focus on understanding the factors driving climate during the Cenozoic. Significant effort has been directed towards the reconstruction of CO2 levels for the past ~50 million years.
